Woodward Foodservice is the UK's fastest expanding foodservice operator. They are
food wholesalers with operations country-wide.
Challenge
Woodward Foodservice needed to consolidate their operational and sales data into
a centralised repository from where executive reporting, CRM analysis and enterprise-wide
reporting could be done. Their aim was to alert decision makers through KPI changes
where issues could be before they arise. All available history needed to be available
for analysis and auditing.
Solution
From the initial meeting we decided with the project manager that the best solution
would be to implement a 2 phase solution. The first phase providing Expert users
with direct access to a consolidated data warehouse from which they could run SQL
queries and a second phase presenting
high level KPIs
to the decision makers through
a dashboard and later a scorecard.
The solution is hosted on a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database and provides Woodward
Foodservice with invaluable management information. Access to the data warehouse
is through standard Microsoft Office tools where appropriate and the dashboard is
web-based, meaning that they did not have to install or licence any additional software
or hardware.
Return on Investment
Woodward Foodservice now have the ability to produce period-on-period comparisons,
monitor regional performance and even stock level analysis through access directly
to the data warehouse. This has saved time and is improving the margins which leads
directly to the bottom-line.
The overnight load is completed hours quicker than their previous solution (from
a world renowned company) which has directly increased the work effectiveness of
their expert users.
